#Discover

Recoules-d’Aubrac is a charming village nestled in the heart of the Aubrac plateau, in a pristine natural setting. Located in a mountainous area and crossed by several streams, the village benefits from an exceptional environment, recognized by its inclusion in the Aubrac Regional Natural Park. It also boasts a Natura 2000 site and several natural areas of ecological interest, reflecting the richness of its flora and fauna.

A bit of history

At an altitude of 1,080 meters, Recoules-d’Aubrac boasts a rich history, marked first by the Knights Templar, then by the Knights Hospitaller of St. John of Jerusalem. Indeed, the village church, dedicated to St. John, was originally a possession of the Templar Order.

In the 13th century, several land disputes arose between the Templars and the Hospitallers of Aubrac, particularly around the Cougoussac farmhouse. However, after 1312, the Templar properties were transferred to the Hospitallers, who continued their settlement in the area.

Even today, Maltese crosses and tombs adorned with the Maltese cross bear witness to this fascinating era. This heritage makes Recoules-d’Aubrac an emblematic site of the medieval history of the Aubrac region.
