#Discover

The former commune of Sainte-Colombe de Peyre has 211 inhabitants and is part of the new commune of Peyre en Aubrac. Located in a natural setting, Sainte-Colombe de Peyre is a livestock farming area. It is renowned for its unspoiled environment and rich flora. Furthermore, the commune is home to several farms specializing in beef cattle. Some of their products are certified with the “Fleur d’Aubrac” and “Bœuf fermier” labels. In addition, two local producers supply the milk necessary for the production of the famous AOC “Laguiole” cheese.

A bit of history

Sainte-Colombe de Peyre was part of the Peyre barony. Its Romanesque church, mentioned as early as 1109, has a 17th-century bell tower. It also houses relics of Saint Colombe and a statue of Saint Privat.

The village contains an old house known as “the castle.” Furthermore, on a promontory, are the remains of the Château du Cher, which was active in the 13th century. Today, only a Romanesque chapel remains.

The coat of arms, created in 2001, features two doves, the symbol of the patron saint. It also includes an eagle, a legacy of the Peyre family. Finally, the name “de Peyre” distinguishes this village from other Sainte-Colombe villages, in reference to the historical barony.
