A bit of history
Since antiquity, the village of Nasbinals has occupied a strategic position. Located on the Via Agrippa, a major trade route linking Lyon to Bordeaux, this territory was once part of the lands of the Gabales, an ancient Gallic tribe.
From the 7th century onwards, the Aubrac plateau began to be evangelized. Gradually, the first Christian communities settled there. It was in the 11th century that the church of Nasbinals was built by monks from the Abbey of Saint-Victor in Marseille. Very quickly, it became an essential stop for pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela.
Even today, the Church of Sainte-Marie in Nasbinals, a true jewel of Romanesque art, continues to fascinate visitors. A listed historical monument, it is distinguished by its colorful volcanic stones, its unique octagonal bell tower, and its impressive pointed arch vault. Through its architecture, the entire history of the village is revealed.
