#Discover
Malbouzon, a high-altitude village in the heart of the Aubrac region of Lozère and the Aubrac Regional Natural Park, is now a delegated commune of Prinsuéjols-Malbouzon. Located on the plateau, this village, once crossed by the Route d’Argent (Silver Road), has a long history. Indeed, it is linked to the Roman road of Agrippa. Furthermore, its name, derived from the medieval “Mont-Bosonis,” testifies to a past deeply rooted in local place names.
A bit of history
Located at an altitude of 1,180 meters on the Aubrac plateau, the village of Malbouzon boasts a rich historical past. Formerly known as “Mas de Bozon,” it is now crossed by the Route d’Argent (Silver Road), which replaced the ancient Roman road, the Via Agrippa. Furthermore, in 1100, the village was given to the monks of Conques Abbey. Since then, the parish has been elevated to the status of an important priory.
In addition, Malbouzon is surrounded by wetlands, known locally as “sagnes,” where remarkable biodiversity is preserved. Several granite crosses, witnesses to local history, are preserved in the village. Thus, Malbouzon has become a favorite stop for hikers drawn to nature and heritage. Its unique natural setting and rich heritage make it an unmissable destination in the Aubrac region.
