Termes is a commune located in the northwest of the Lozère department, in the Occitanie region. It enjoys a mountain climate. Several streams cross its territory, including the Malagazagne, Bernadel, and Arzenc streams. Furthermore, it is part of the Aubrac Regional Natural Park. The name Termes may derive from a feudal term. Indeed, it designated “a place of observation from which one can see all around.” This origin aptly explains the village’s commanding position.

The village of Termes is mentioned as early as 1145, when it formed a priory with La Fage Saint-Julien, dependent on Clermont. Its name comes from a feudal term designating a place of observation, which corresponds to its position perched on a hill at an altitude of 1171 meters. Over the centuries, Termes developed around its church, built in the 13th century and subsequently enlarged. This rural village has managed to preserve its charm and identity, despite administrative changes and demographic shifts.

The Church of Saint John the Baptist: Located in the heart of the village, this church combines 13th-century architecture with 19th-century modifications. Its 16th-century bell tower, twelve wooden statues, monumental painted Christ, and granite baptismal font make it a remarkable monument. Inside, the walls and vaults are decorated with polychrome paintings in warm colors, creating a unique atmosphere.
