A bit of history
Located in the Terre de Peyre region, between the Margeride and Aubrac plateaus, La Chaze-de-Peyre lies within a territory rich in traditions. From Roman times, the region held a strategic role thanks to Javols (formerly Anderitum), an important crossroads between Lyon and Narbonne.
In the Middle Ages, the Peyre barony dominated the region from its fortress at Roc de Peyre, which no longer exists. It notably played a key role in defending the territory against Saracen invasions.
Furthermore, La Chaze-de-Peyre was a key stop on the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago). Pilgrims would stop there to pray in the Pignède chapel, founded in 1525. Now dedicated to Our Lady of La Salette, it remains a peaceful place much appreciated by hikers.

The Chapel of La Pignède, located on the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago), was founded in 1525 by Father Bastide and originally dedicated to the Holy Cross. Since 1868, it has been venerated as a shrine to Our Lady of La Salette.
The Oven and the Bread Festival: The first Saturday of July is the Bread Festival in La Chaze de Peyre. The village oven is fired up by baking bread and fougasse (a type of flatbread).
