Stopover guesthouses on the Aubrac

Take a break from the highways

The gîtes d’étape (pilgrim hostels) on the Aubrac plateau in Lozère are true havens of rest for hikers and pilgrims. Nestled in the heart of unspoiled natural landscapes, these hostels offer a warm and authentic welcome, often in traditional stone houses.

After a day on the plateau’s trails, everyone can find comfort, hearty meals made with local products, and a friendly atmosphere. More than just accommodations, these gîtes d’étape are places for meeting and sharing, where travel stories are recounted around a table.

Most are located along the Way of St. James (Camino de Santiago) or the Way of St. Guilhem, as well as on the Tour des Monts d’Aubrac and the Urbain V Trail. These strategic locations allow walkers to easily find shelter for the night.

During peak season, particularly in May and August, remember to book in advance. However, avoid booking several guesthouses for the same stage in order to preserve the balance and comfort of all hikers.

Practical advice

To fully enjoy stopover guesthouses

  • Book in advance:
Hiking hostels fill up quickly, especially in May, June, and August. We recommend booking before your departure to secure your place and choose a stage that suits your pace. The Tourist Office no longer books hostels on the day of your trip. With too many hikers at reception and some no-shows, this service is no longer available. It is therefore essential to book your hostel directly in advance.

Notify us in case of cancellation:
If you need to change your itinerary, contact the hostel in advance. This frees up space for other hikers and helps ensure the smooth running of the establishments.

    Equip yourself properly:
Even in summer, nights can be chilly on the Aubrac plateau. Bring a lightweight sleeping bag, a towel, and toiletries for optimal comfort.

Limited mobile network coverage in Nasbinals:
Only Orange has reliable coverage in the village. If you need to book accommodation or notify someone, do so before you arrive to avoid any problems.

    Shops closed on Mondays:
Most local shops and services are often closed on Mondays. Plan your grocery shopping or other needs beforehand to avoid any unpleasant surprises.

    Respect the peace and quiet:
Guesthouses are places for rest and sharing. Respect other hikers, arrival times, and the rules of communal living to fully enjoy the friendly atmosphere.

    Enjoy local meals:
Many guesthouses offer hearty meals prepared with local produce or picnic baskets. This is an opportunity to discover the gastronomy of the Aubrac region and recharge for the next stages of your hike.
