Sarting from Aumont-Aubrac
A carbon-neutral excursion to discover the Aubrac region
Objective: Experience an eco-friendly adventure using sustainable transportation!
From Paris, Montpellier, or Lyon, embark on a unique getaway to Aumont-Aubrac, in the heart of the Aubrac region, by train via the Béziers-Clermont line. No train available? No problem: the LIO bus line will take you there for just €2. Thank you, Occitanie Region!
Upon your arrival in Aumont-Aubrac, you have two options:
Option 1: For hiking enthusiasts
Just 700 meters from the train station, the GR65 (Way of St. James) awaits you.
We offer a beautiful 15 km loop through the heart of the iconic Aubrac landscapes.
Points of interest along the route:
La Chaze de Peyre and its striking Romanesque church with its unique bell tower.
The Bastide Chapel, a popular spiritual stop for pilgrims.
Paths lined with broom, flowery meadows, and panoramic views.

- Picnic tip: Remember to fill up your tank before you leave! In Aumont-Aubrac: 2 bakeries, 2 butcher shops and several shops selling local specialties await you.
- Return to Aumont-Aubrac after 3 to 4 hours of walking.
Option 2: For leisurely cyclists
Head to the village center to visit Gévaudan Vélo, where Jean-Baptiste offers classic and electric bike rentals. A quick reservation in advance, and you’re all set for a day of exploration!
On the agenda:
Head to Le Buisson to visit the Gévaudan Wolf Park: observe over 70 wolves of different species in an exceptional natural setting.
Lunch at the Roc restaurant in Saint-Sauveur de Peyre. If you have a little extra time, climb to the summit of Roc de Peyre: a breathtaking panorama awaits you.
Relax in the afternoon at Lac du Moulinet, then head to the Château de la Baume, nicknamed the “Little Versailles of Gévaudan.” A guided tour will immerse you in the history and heritage of Lozère.
Finally, leave your bikes in Finiyerols for a final 15 km hike on the GR65 long-distance hiking trail. There you will discover the Roc des Loups, a natural site as curious as it is magnificent, as well as the Oculus, a mysterious 2-tonne basalt ring, which offers you a unique reading of the Aubrac landscape.
